Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson dead at 48

Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has died aged 48. The acclaimed composer, who performed at the 2016 Perth Festival, was found in his Berlin apartment the cause of death has not been declared at this time.

The musician was best known for his film soundtracks to movies including The Theory of Everything, which won him a Golden Globe award. He often worked with director Denis Villeneuve creating soundtracks for his films including Sicario, Arrival and Prisoners.

He also released many alums of his work, the most recent was 2016’s Orphée. Jóhannsson also created music  for television and theatrical projects.   

His management confirmed his passing saying he had died on Friday.

“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of our dear friend Johann.” his management posted to Facebook.

“We have lost one of the most talented and brilliant people who we had the privilege of knowing and working with.

“May his music continue to inspire us.”

Jóhannsson is survived by his parents, sisters and a daughter.
