Club West At Universall

Terry Larder spills the beans on what Club West is up to for their inaugural  Pride Party performance.

‘It’s going to be something like Teletubbies meets transient music.

The concept was basically to be fun and frivolous because that’s the nature of what Club West is, but also we are targeting to a different audience now, so we have to have something that has more credential for a dance party set. We are going to be doing some edgy stuff that has been tried on the floor before, but maybe not necessarily worked in an Italian Club environment. The way it is going to be done is a good powerhouse of 80s, 90s, right up to current stuff with a couple of numbers that are humorous, but also with some sex, some man sex. I’m not say strip sex, but the idea of being evocative of sex.

Robbie Deephouse. He is a seasoned performer. He is definitely one of the stars. Gary Kuchel. He does electrifying, grunge music. The thing he is actually doing is ‘Chocolate Starfish’, which has the word fuck 43 times in its lyrics. It is a bit racy. The makeup and the visuals will really have an impact, which is what we are known for.

I just think that Club West has always been supportive of Pride. We will be there in the Parade. This is an honour to be asked – it is the first time we have been asked to do something for them.

It’s going to be a little bit more racy than previous shows. It is an 11.30 show. What we do at Club West is for a very mixed audience – 40% is straight and supportive – you have to pull back a little. This is Pride though, and while there will be straight people, we are going to let it rip…’
