CELTIC WOMAN – Manhattan Records

Celtic WomanFive Irish women who were previously unknown outside their country of origin have combined their talents in this self-titled album that casts a Celtic spell with this compilation of traditional and contemporary melodies. Fifteen-year old Chloe’s angelic voice brings new life to the classic favourites such as Ave Maria and Nella Fantasia. Meav’s pure soprano voice brings out the best in traditional songs like Danny Boy and Lisa reproduces May It Be from Lord of the Rings. Orla plays the Irish harp as well as singing and the fifth member of the group, Mairead, supplies the violin accompaniment. The singers sometimes combine for timeless popular tracks like Enya’s Orinocco Flow and Josh Groban’s You Raise Me Up. With the same musical director as Riverdance – David Downes, the keyboard atmospherics, orchestral backing and selective use of traditional instruments bring out the spiritual overtones in this uplifting album.
