CD Review: Cold Specks

I Predict a Graceful Expulsion (Mute)

Cold Specks album I Predict a Graceful Expulsion is the latest offering from Canadian singer-songwriter, Al Spx. It’s a deep soulful album, with Spx’s powerful voice shining through the beautiful harmonies and multi-layered arrangements. The album also features a number of musicians who utilise a whole gamut of instruments from the piano to church bells to create a rich full sound.  Stand out tracks include the blissful Winter Solstice and the traditional styling of Old Stepstone. While this album won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, fans of mellow soul music to get lost in will find plenty to love here.
