Last month the California Supreme Court ruled a ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional. That ruling went into effect on June 16 and the state’s same-sex couples were able to legally marry. Opponents to same-sex marriage have since collected enough signatures to put a voter’s initiative on the November election ballot to change the state Constitution and define marriage as between a man and a woman. Recent polls have found 54% of Californians oppose a constitutional amendment against same-sex marriage, as does Governor Arnold Schwarzeneggar.
