Stuart Price is heading to Parker Nightclub this month to DJ under his Jacques Lu Cont non de plume. This super producer is behind some great well known, and lesser known albums and a stack of amazing remixes. Here’s our pick of his best work.
Madonna – Confessions on a Dance Floor
Madonna’s ‘American Life’ album was one of the worst selling of her career, but one track that did get a good critical response was ‘X-static Process’ which was written with Price, who also played keyboards on most of the album. Price also served as music director on Madonna’s Reinvention World Tour.
For her next record Madonna turned to Price to be her major collaborator. The album includesthe singles ‘Hung Up’, ‘Jump’, ‘Sorry’ and ‘Get Together’.
Price also contributed some killer remixes of each of the singles plus reworkings of album tracks like ‘Let It Will Be’ and ‘I Love New York’. Price also served as music director on the following ‘Confessions’ World Tour.
The Scissor Sisters – Night Work
The Scissor Sister’s completely scrapped their first attempt at recording their third album. Lead singer Jake Shears was reported as saying that if it didn’t work out in the studio soon, the band would be over.
Teaming up with Price, the band created a hit record which included the hits ‘Any Which Way’ and ‘Fire With Fire’. They also teamed up with Kylie Minogue who provided some backing vocals.
Also appearing on the album was Culture Club’s backing singer Helen Terry and Joan Wasser from Joan as Police Woman.
The bands first album on their own label, after 30 years with well established label Parlaphone, saw the respected electronic band make a very welcome return to the dance floor.
The album, which was released back in July, has spawned ‘Axis’, ‘Vocal’, ‘Love is a Bourgeois Construct’ and ‘Thursday’. For their latest single ‘Thursday’ the PSB’s team up with UK artist Example. The album also contains an unexpected cover of a recent Bruce Springsteen song.
Surprisingly Price has not, as far as we know, contributed any remixes to the singles released so far.
Price served as Executive Producer for this album. While he only wrote and produced a handful of the songs on the album, Price was charged with the task of making the album sound as a whole.
Price was behind the controls for the first single ‘All The Lovers’. The album features a host of guests and contributors including Tim Rice-Oxley from Keanne, Nerina Pallot, Luciana, Calvin Harris and Jakes Sears frm then Scissor Sisters.
