Backstage at STYLEAID

The backstage area of STYLEAID at first appears to be a chaotic space, people are rushing around, dance music is playing, the sound of multiple hair dryers sounds like a wind tunnel is operation. There is also an abundance of photographers snapping the work in progress.

Outside many models lounge on the floor, leaning against walls waiting for their turn to be transformed. Hundreds of models it seems, all checking their phones and hanging out.

There is also order in the air as people with clip boards call out codes for different groups of models to come forth and be ushered through the hair and make up professionals. “I need three Group E boys now!” shouts a efficient organiser grasping a clipboard. Three more models come to life and pull themselves up from the floor.

The fashion fundraiser wowed a crowded ballroom at Crown last night. Showcasing the work of local designers the A-list event raised essential funds for the WA AIDS Council.

There’s something strange about being in a room with so many seriously good looking people. It’s like a law of the universe has been broken – as if too many attractive people may bring on a natural disaster of some ilk.

The hair stylists and make up artists work at a furious pace, so much energy, so many models to be made up before the show starts in an hour’s time.
