Australia is going back to Eurovision

Guy Sebastian

SBS has announced that Australia will be completing in Eurovision in Sweden next year.

This year Guy Sebastian represented Australia in the song contest, at the time it was described as a one off special event.

Now it looks like Australia’s participation might be shaping up to be an annual event – although there is no official word on an ongoing inclusion.

Two years ago Jessica Mauboy gave a special non-competition performance in Denmark, and then Guy Sebastian was hugely popular in Austria coming 5th in the competition. Now an Australian will be taking to the stage for a third year in a row.

The next Australian Eurovision competitor might have to work a bit harder than Sebastian though, they’ll be starting off in the semi-final and will have to work their way through to the Grand final.

The 2016 edition of the competition will feature 41 countries and be held in Stockholm. It’ll be the third time Sweden has been the host of the competition.
