The experience of discrimination is common ground for both Queer and Aboriginal communities. Queers 4 Reconciliation (Q4R) formed during Pride 2006 to support indigenous queers in WA, recognizing that Aboriginal GLBTIQ people often feel alienated even within the queer community.
Q4R aims to raise cultural awareness about Aboriginal culture and history & also to promote friendships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal queers.
Q4R will continue running Cultural Awareness Workshops in June and July. These workshops feature an introduction to the history and culture of Aboriginal Australia by 2006 Pride WA Patron Jim Morrison.
Cultural Awareness Workshops:
- 5.30pm – 8.00pm Thursday 28th June 2007
- 5.30pm – 8.00pm Thursday 5th July 2007
