Some of Perth’s hottest football flesh will be decked out in the latest fashions at the Court Hotel Sunday 17 June 2007 from 6.30pm to fundraise for the WA Women’s Football League State Team. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. All profits from the evening will go toward sending a 26 member squad plus support staff to Canberra for the National Women’s Football Championships from 9-15 July. As the Court is a licensed premise, the fashion parade is an 18+ event.

GAELIC FOOTBALL

Newcomers to the league, the Coastal Breakers, had their first win this month against Morley Gaels, even with a significantly depleted side. The Breakers worked hard to keep the ball in the forward line – thanks in part to a stand-out performance from Kezia ‘Plum’ Jones. Chris Kreppold scored a bag-full from all angles, but most impressively made space and kept her eyes open for other free players in the forward line, offering several assists including one to Lisa B for her first ‘over’ for the season (her fist pump didn’t go unnoticed).

The back line was their solid best. Holly Brown never looked like a rookie and had several crucial and confident runs through the midfield. Ange Williamson shone as a workhorse in the backline providing a valuable link through the mid-field.

The Breakers dominated this game – even outmanned and on tired legs, and the final score was 4-14 (26) to 2-6 (12).

Congratulations to Kate on her first game – hit the ball like a freight train. Promising rookies include: Vorn (great hand-ball passages), Tang (stalwart of the backline – beats her opponent to the ball 9 times of 10), Joey (and not just for her redbullesque enthusiasm!) and Mardi (surname isn’t Dodgson for nothing). And if it weren’t for those pesky ladders, we might well have recruited Lethal Lee from goal scoring duty…

TENNIS

What a season it’s been! With the season drawing to an end at Loton Park Tennis Club it’s time to reflect. Like a lot of sporting groups our numbers were very low at the beginning of the year, this sparked an awareness/membership drive through the community – thank you to all those that supported us. The changes in people’s lifestyles and work commitments saw changes in the playing times, Sunday Social Tennis was cancelled, whilst Saturdays continued to be popular. The coming of Daylight Saving ignited a new ‘social game’ aspect to the club with the commencement of Wednesday Twilight Social Tennis. This proved to be an enormous hit both on and off the courts. There were several competitions, including the ever popular Saturday Sausage Sizzle, the recently held Quiz Night (congratulations to the winning table who scored 90 out of 100) and the main event – the Club Championships.

As of the 5 June the grass gourts will be closed until the opening of the new season in October. There are still things happening during the Winter months with the men having a team in Division 1 of the Men’s Midweek Night League Competition and the hard courts being available to play on. Members are free during the day and $10/hour at night; non-members can hire the courts for the day rate of $10/hour and night $15/hour. The courts are booked out for members’ use on Saturdays from 1-5pm.

For information on membership, hire fees or anything else relating to the Club please call Michelle Rigg 0418 942 231 or email; enquiries@lotonpark.com.au.
