Gladys Knight announces first Australian tour in over 20 years

Legendary soul singer Gladys Knight has announced an Australian and New Zealand tour in 2020, and it all begins in Perth.

The soul star along with her nine-piece band will begin on Tuesday 4 February at the Crown Theatre in Perth, followed by performances in Sydney at the Star Event Centre on Thursday 6 February, Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on Saturday 8 February and at the QPAC Concert Hall in Brisbane on Tuesday 11 February.

She will then head to New Zealand to perform at the Civic Theatre in Auckland on Thursday 13 February and Christchurch’s Town Hall on Saturday 15 February.

These will be the soul legends first Australia and New Zealand shows in over two decades.

Glady Knight has enjoyed decades of success in the music industry from her work with backing band The Pips in the 1960’s and 1970’s through to the disco era and mega-hits in the 1980s.

The singer’s signature tune in Midnight Train to Georgia which was a massive hit in 1973, while in the 1980’s she teamed up with Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick and Elton John to record That’s What Friends Are For – the song’s proceeds went to HIV/AIDS charities.

Gladys Knight also had the honour of recording a Bond tune, she sings the theme tune to the 1987 film Licence to Kill. More recently the singer teamed up with Culture Club and Boy George to add vocals to their song Runaway Train.
