Sasha Velour to launch lip-synching web series in 2020

The winner of the ninth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race is warming up for a new online series that explores the art of the lip sync.

Sasha Velour, who is perhaps best remembered for her rousing rose-petal lip sync in the finale of Season 9, is bringing her critically acclaimed club series Nightgowns to a new short-form video service called Quibi.

Velour will team up with director Sophie Muller on the series as they follow a performer from inception to applause as they craft a lip-sync number.

The official statement says the short episodes draw viewers “to one performer in particular, and reveals their daily life, process and backstory, culminating in a 2-3 minute made-for-mobile visual expression of their live number, directed by Sophie Muller.”

Muller is renowned for her music video work, creating visuals for the Eurythmics, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, PJ Harvey, Cheryl Cole, Sade, Sugababes, Dolly Parton, P!nk, Bjork and more.

Velour will join Tyra Banks, Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Lopez, Chrissy Teigen and others in creating content for Quibi, which is set to launch in 2020.
