The Perth Centre of Photography is presenting an exhibition of new work from photographer Brianna Elton.
Elton won the centre’s Uncover award in 2017 which allows an artist to represent a body of work, it’s open to all forms of photography. Elton’s work in photography in in the realm of portraiture but she plays with light in intriguing ways.
The Sydney based photographer graduated from Sydney College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in Photomedia.
The description for her upcoming exhibition at the King Street Art Centre explains her approach to light and photography.
Rather than profiling its subjects, it obscures them, reducing them to ciphers. The space they inhabit is empty, save for a single, vaguely-defined source of illumination. Intimacy is conjured through movement and gesture, as bodies stripped of their specifics gravitate towards the light.
