CHOGM Protest highlights gay rights

Gay rights protesters were among the hundreds of CHOGM protesters who converged on Forrest Place last month.

Activists protested for better gay rights around the world, including lobbying for equal rights such as gay marriage.

Other groups involved with the October 28 protest included Occupy Perth, the ROAR Feminist collective and indigenous rights groups.

Danielle, a gay mother, attended the protest with her partner and children.

She said: ‘we’re a gay family… we love each other, it shouldn’t matter if we’re same-sex or opposite, we should be able to get married.’

‘We just want to fight for our rights; hopefully it gets us somewhere.

‘I just feel that we’re in love and that’s all that should matter, so we should be able to let the world know.

‘We’ve got five children between us, and they’re proud of us.’
