New queer night Homopolitan starts tonight at Connections Nightclub, the new event has been put together by DJs Pete and Cooper and is on from 8pm – 12pm and promises a totally fresh vibe.
OUTinPerth had a quick chat with Pete about the new night.
Tell us about Homopolitan – what kind of a night is it going to be?
Homopolitan is a fun and fresh inclusive queer party which will provide something a little different than what is currently on offer in Perth. We see it partly as a return to queer culture, and a celebration of the personal strengths we can have by being different.
On a functional level, it’s a meeting place for people on the LGBTIQ+ spectrum and their friends. You can come and have a drink, a dance, meet other like-minded people, and experience music, performance, and living characters which deviate away from their commercial counterparts.
What will make Homopolitan different to other times we’ve been to Connections.
It’s cheaply priced, it starts early, and most of all it’ll be queer as f***!
Describe the vibe of Homopolitan with five words
Sexy, silly, inclusive, alternative, queer
What kind of music are we likely to hear, tell us some tunes that you’re loving at the moment that might fit the theme of the night?
From Pete you can expect to hear warm, sexy, bubbly house music, and a hint of 80s boogie and deep disco. Tracks that make you feel hot! From Cooper you will get some jackin’ vocal house and underground queer anthems, usually sprinkled with a few overlooked pop bangers. Oh and of course a mandatory tribute to RoÃsin Murphy.
We also have two special guests joining us to DJ, Perth’s extremely talented DJ and producer Shy Time, and Louis K, who was invited to become a resident DJ at Connections just last year.
Pete nominated Honey Dijon’s State of Confusion as the type of track you might hear at Homopolitan.Â
Head down to Connections at 81 James Street, Northbridge from 8pm to join the Friday night party.
