Review | Leave your virtues at the door for Sinsuality 3: Noir

Sinsuality 3: Noir | De Parel | til Feb 18th | ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Ringmistress BarbieQ has reunited with local circus favourites Kinetica for a third iteration of their critically acclaimed Fringe World series; Sinsuality.

The format remains the same, in which the performers embody each of the seven cardinal sins with their circus skills and flair. Though the performances have been tweaked and twisted since Sinsuality‘s debut, the core idea of the show ain’t broke and the team were wise not to fix it.

BarbieQ brings her usual charm to the stage, and I’m excited to see Fringe audiences get another taste of our Connections Nightclub matron. Whether she’s MCing or showing off her own circus talents, Miss Q knows how to whip the crowd into a frenzy and prepare us all for what we are about to receive.

The pairing of Barbie and Kinetica has been a successful formula for many years now between festival season and Connections shows, and the De Parel Speigeltent really gives the artists the space to shine in their own right.

Burlesque queen Sugar du Joure and pole dancer Ruby Lai ooze sensuality all over the stage, while Mr Boylesque Australia 2017 Karl Kayoss literally gets the stage wet. Extra points too for the unabashedly queer moment of lust between Kayoss and Barbie between the sheets.

Kayoss and Kinetica’s aerial artists bring some of the more impressive circus to the stage in a festival saturated with acrobatic performers, and the show’s sinful concept takes the show to a fully-realised level that other shows may be lacking.

If you’re having trouble narrowing down which of the dozens of circus cabaret show’s to see this festival, hoist Sinsuality 3: Noir to the top of your list. Let this exceptional local queer talent confess their sins to you. You won’t regret it.

Sinsuality 3: Noir will be at the Pleasure Gardens until Feb 18th. Tickets and more information available from fringeworld.com.au
