Freedom Centre – Happy Times

As you might’ve heard in July’s edition of Out in Perth – the Freedom Centre has just gotten a capacity building grant from the Mental Health Commission to get some extra staffing! So I’ve just been brought on as a new Peer Educator for three days a week. Aside from working at our drop-in centre for a couple of sessions each week, I’ll also be working on the Freedom Centre’s online services, like the Freedom Centre forum.

The Freedom Centre forum is a safe online space for under 26s to get info, support, and talk to people who have similar experiences with sexuality, sex and gender to yours. It’s a place where you can ask questions, as well as vent and share opinions about sexuality, gender, self esteem and other things that are important to you.

It’s also a place to get involved with awesome group projects, which we’ve started up to help those who can’t come into the drop-in space to get involved with the Freedom Centre. Our current focus on the forum is The Happiness Project, which is something that anyone can get involved with.

The Happiness Project is about making resolutions every month for one year to do the things that will boost your happiness. You might love to act, or you want to exercise every morning, or you’ve always meant to travel, so this project is about realising those goals!

So far, we’ve been making resolutions to get fit, get inspired and get things done. So if you’re keen to join us, you can log on to the Freedom Centre forum on the FC website, at www.freedom.org.au.
As well as starting up The Happiness Project, we’ve also been looking into having more available online. With that in mind, we’re super excited to announce the launch of FC Yeah, which is the Freedom Centre’s new Tumblr.

FC Yeah will act as an online zine, and feature not only updates and news about what’s happening at the Freedom Centre, but also artwork, stories, articles and content by FC peeps! With so much on during Pride (you can check out the Freedom Centre calendar on our website to see what’s coming up!) we’ll be updating a couple of times each week with heaps of interesting content, so be sure to check out fcyeah.tumblr.com. Submit your contributions to info@freedom.org.au.
