No Greater Evil than gay marriage supporters: US conservative

An American conservative commentator has told a Canberra crowd today there was ‘no greater evil’ in the world than gay marriage supporters.

About 500 people attended the Parliament House event, according to The Australian, which also reported far-right US commentator Rebecca Hagelin’s comments.

Hagelin said there was ‘no greater evil’ in the world than same-sex marriage supporters and that they were at ‘war for the future of the human race’.

Australian Christian Lobby chief Jim Wallace also addressed the crowd, saying he would not compromise ‘truth’ for the ‘selfish agenda’ of those advocating gay marriage.

Federal Independent Bob Katter; Liberal MP Kevin Andrews; Nationals Senate leader Barnaby Joyce and Labor MP John Murphy (pictured) also criticised gay marriage, calling it nonsense, among other things.

In a statement, Equal Love activist Farida Iqbal said the Marriage Amendment Act should not be celebrated.

‘This law causes tremendous pain to a lot of people, reinforcing inequality and prejudice through the law,’ Iqbal said.

‘This is a civil rights issue. Civil rights apply to the whole population, regardless of religion, race or gender. It is time for the government to take a positive action and remove the Marriage Amendment Act, instead of giving an elevated platform to the bigots.’
