Who topped the leader board on the Freedom App?

One of the most intriguing tools rolled out during the marriage postal survey has been the Coalition for Marriage’s Freedom Team App.

The phone app allows supporters of the ‘No’ campaign to watch videos instructing them how to engage with people and argue against marriage equality, and has a location based service that can direct you to the nearest house that has not yet been door knocked by the campaign.

The app also lets users posts stories about their success in getting people to join their campaign.

Today, on the final day that forms could be submitted to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, volunteers in for the ‘No’ campaign shared stories of finding one last “no’ vote and rushing to the finishing line. Members shared stories of rushing out into the suburbs to collect envelopes and driving them back in to the ABS offices.

For every action you undertake on the app you gain points, and your name is listed on both a national and state leader board.

The app was created by an American company Political Social Media LLC, trading as uCampaign. They have also created apps for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, Brexit’s ‘Vote Leave’ and the USA’s National Rifle Association.

In Western Australia at the end of the campaign WA Director, and new Gosnells City Councillor, Peter Abetz had secured the top spot on the leader board with 24,666 points.

Since he’d passed the 10,000 point mark the local politician had unlocked the ‘Activist’ badge but fell just 334 points of making it to the ‘Organiser’ level.

Nationally the top spot was taken out by Theo Magdas from New South Wales, who had accumulated 135,531 points. By achieving over 125,000 points Theo had successful unlocked the ‘Freedom Fighter’ badge.
