Cross Campus Queer Network

Somehow July is already upon us and as we go to press, CCQN’s biggest event of the year, the annual queer conference Queer Collaborations, is now well underway over at Curtin University. This week-long event is all about community building and features plenty of interactive workshops, discussion forums, information sessions and plenaries, as well as showcasing some fantastic local and interstate speakers, artists and performers.

We’re extremely proud to be bringing this event to our own backyard and hopefully all of our hard work in planning has paid off. CCQN would like to extend a big thank you to everyone that volunteered or registered to attend this exciting event and we’re hoping you find it a positive, educational and memorable week.

QC is a huge step in putting Perth on the Queer map and it’s been great to have so many delegates travelling from interstate to attend. If you didn’t get around to registering, Single Day Passes to conference are still available by emailing the Organising Collective on ccqn.qc2011@gmail.com. QC will be coming to a close on Sunday July 10th so don’t miss out!

QC certainly hasn’t been our only focus though, with a bunch of new events coming your way in the second half of 2011. Of particular significance will be our first Masquerade Ball at Murdoch University in October, and of course, plenty of annual Pride Week celebrations featuring a diverse array of events for all interests across Curtin, Murdoch, ECU and UWA. We can’t wait to see those rainbow flags flying high once again across university campuses! For more information on these events, check out our website at www.ccqn.net.

Although most undergraduates are now on university holidays, semester two is just around the corner (sorry to remind you all) which means you’ll be seeing plenty more from CCQN. We’re hoping to visit all WA campuses holding orientation events and will be spreading the word about campus Queer Collectives and other local services which are designed specifically for queer and LGBTI* students. If you’re commencing study soon, or know someone that is, check out your student guild for information on your campus’s Queer Collective – these are valuable services for all queer students and are a great way to meet people, find peer support, get educated and make some valuable friendships.

Curtin, ECU, Murdoch and UWA will also be holding plenty of events such as movie nights, discussion groups and workshops which are all great ways to get the most out of your university experience. CCQN is of course always here to support you, just email us at
ccqnwa@gmail.com
