Friday
Jennifer Coolidge
Actress and comedian Jennifer Coolidge is in town for just one night with her stand up show, we’ve got the inside word from her performances in other cities that the show is a total riot, head down to The Astor in Mount Lawley.
Dick and Christa Hughes
Head downstairs at His Majesty’s Theatre for a cabaret performance. Join legendary jazz pianist Dick Hughes and his infamous singing daughter, Christa as they present songs from their 2010 ARIA nominated album, 21st Century Blues.
Supanova
Get your geek on at the Supanova pop culture expo at The Claremont Show Grounds this weekend. A whole bunch of Sci-Fi TV stars are on the line up including the cast of I Dream of Jeanie, Tom Felton aka Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter, James Masters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gareth David-Lloyd from Torchwood and heaps of others. If you’re not going – you can always keep your eyes peeled for celebrities over the weekend.
The Bird
The Bird on William Street has a great DJ line-up tonight, Rok Riley, Marcus, Fahmadanman, Ben M and Rhythmatism. Free entry for this one, so a great choice if your strapped for cash.
Famous Fridays at Connections Night Club
Feminem the Future is back for Famous Friday and tonight the statuesque Tara Fyde will being making her debut. Doors open at 10pm, get down before 11pm for free entry. DJing in the club will be Johnni P, Feminem and JJ while out on the terrace will be Curlee, Paul and Craig.
Saturday
Marriage Equality Workshops
Australian Marriage Equality are holding a workshop on how you can act to support same sex marriage. The workshops are being held in at the Northbridge Piazza, you need to register in advance to attend.
100% Equality a Q&A Forum
Lynn MacLaren MLA for the South Metropolitan region hosts a forum on Marriage Equality at the Little Creatures Loft from 4:30pm. National Spokesperson for PFLAG, author Daniel Witthaus, former PRIDE patron Dr Suzanne Covich and former Democrat Senator Brian Greig are all set to speak. It’s a free event and it kicks off at 4:30pm
Fremantle Winter Music Festival
Community radio station RTRFM holds their Fremantle Winter Music Festival fundraiser. Spread over The Swan Hotel, The Railway Hotel and Mojo’s, it’s easy to walk the short distance between each venue and sample a wide range of local music. It’s cheap as and for a good cause, head down early though because it always sells out.
At Mojo’s it’s all funk and electronic with Sun City, Craig Hollywood, Sam Perry, Philly Blunt , at the Swan there will be Odette Mercy, Grace Woodroofe and Sneaky Weasel Gang and over at The Railway you’ll find Injured Ninja, The Chemist, San Cisco and Little Ships, plus there’s about 20v other bands we haven’t mentioned.
Hexx at Manhattans
Zoom over to Victoria Park for this new night of experimental sounds, drone, industrial and gothic with DJ’s Smut Pedler and Jessica Kill.
Connections Night Club
Saturday night’s DJ roster is Johnni P, MItchy T and Feminem inside and outside there’s Cinnamon, Sharif and Rob. Check out Hannah Conda in Connections Kylie tribute show.
Sunday
Wicked
Head to the Burswood Theatre and check out Wicked, it’s been playing on Broadway forever and now it’s here in Perth. WAPPA graduate Lucy Durack is a delight and the show is a bundle of fun. The matinee is on at 1pm
Hang Out in a Park
Always a cheap option, we suggest Hyde Park for those on a budget or not feeling particularly energetic. If you’re more adventurous give John Forrest National Park a go.
Rising Water
Black Swan Theatre has the world premiere of Tim Winton’s Rising Water at The State Theatre Centre. Directed by Kate Cherry it features Kai Arbuckle, Callum Fletcher, Stuart Halusz, John Howard, Geoff Kelso, Claire Lovering and Alison Whyte.
The Ellington
Australian jazz legend Vince Jones is playing – get in early to get a seat downstairs, but even upstairs in the bar this will be worthwhile.
