The music of multi-award winning American composer, John Williams, maintains a special place in the WASO repertoire; and this, the second concert in the WASO 2017 Pops Series, pays tribute to the man who has composed some of the most popular and instantly recognisable film scores in the history of cinema.
Winner of five Academy Awards and a record-breaking number of individual nominations (only Walt Disney has been nominated more often), John Williams has scored more than 100 films, including his towering collaborations with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas on blockbusters like Jaws, Star Wars, Schindler’s List and Harry Potter.
In addition to his film scores, John Williams is a conductor and a prolific composer of classical concerti. He is Conductor Laureate of the famous Boston Pops Orchestra and was Principal Conductor for thirteen years from 1980.
The program comprises a variety of pieces from Williams’ extensive oeuvre including The Shark Theme from Jaws, one of the most spine-chilling cinematic themes of all time, as well as Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra from the chase scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where Indy and his father flee Castle Brunwald on a stolen motorcycle, Fawkes the Phoenix from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and a range of the music he composed for the Star Wars film series created by George Lucas.
Charismatic conductor, Guy Noble, requires no introduction to Western Australians. His passion and enthusiasm for music is infectious and his rapport with the audiences has made him a favourite with concert-goers for many years. This program provides an ideal vehicle for Guy to bring the music to life in concert.
