Geri Horner set to release first song in years as George Michael tribute

Former Spice Girl Geri Horner is about to release her first tune in years, and it’s a tribute to her late friend George Michael.

Angels in Chains will be released on 23 June, two days before what would have been George Michael’s 54th birthday.

Geri recently revealed that she’d been working on the song for six months and it also involved some other musicians who worked closely with her late mentor. The tracks been produced by Chris Porter, and Shirley Lewis sings backing vocals.

The singer told British newspaper The Sun that the song contains some references to some of George Michael’s biggest hits including Faith and Freedom ’90.

The last time Geri released any music was back in 2013 when she put out the single Half of Me. The song was only released in Australia though, it coincided with Geri’s stint judging Australia’s Got Talent.

The tune was written by songwriting team DNA, who later penned Dami Im’s Eurovision tune, but it didn’t fair well in the charts, only entering at a measly number 281.

The rest of the world has been waiting much longer for new music from the lady once known as Ginger Spice. Her singer Desire off her Passion album from 2005 was the last time most of the world heard new music from Geri.

There had been suggestions that Geri would be celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Spice Girls debut album alongside Emma Bunton and Mel B. The trio were rumoured to be recording new music but nothing has eventuated.
