Addams Family heads to Sydney

Broadway’s latest musical success is set to come to Australia. Today it was announced that The Addams Family will have its Australian debut at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre, but you’ll have to wait a little while – the show won’t open until March 2013.

The musical version of The Addams Family is an original new story written by Jersey Boys co-writers Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. The production opened on Broadway in April 2010 and has become one of broadways top grossing shows, beaten only by The Lion King and Wicked.

There’s no word yet on who’ll be joining the Australian cast to bring Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley and Lurch to life. In the US Broadway veterans Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth headed the cast.

Since it’s Broadway debut the show has had several changes that have made it even more popular with audiences including the addition of the theme tune from the popular TV series of the 1960’s.
