A new international marriage equality initiative for Australia has been launched in the USA yesterday, led by Kylie Minogue’s fiancee Joshua Sasse and local advocacy group Australians 4 Equality.

The campaign has already seen support from Australian actor and Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie who appeared on the opening episode of the 42nd season of Saturday Night Live wearing a shirt emblazoned with the initiative’s slogan.

Country music legend Dolly Parton and Kylie Minogue also appeared in photos of the launch event, alongside Minogue’s partner Joshua Sasse.

Writing for the Say I Do Down Under website, Sasse asks the question, “Have you ever been in love?”

“Imagine too then, having your government deny you that right — what if you couldn’t marry that person. Your person,” Sasse continues.

The British actor said that he was shocked to discover that Australia had still not implemented equal marriage rights for LGBTIQ+ people.

“There are many hurdles to jump in order to make constitutional change, but we are now the closest we’ve ever been to that change,” the page reads.

The campaign urges supporters of marriage equality to use the hashtag #sayidodownunder, buy a Say I Do Down Under shirt from the website and “wear your heart on your sleeve” to show solidarity with the movement in Australia.
