Prime Minister open to negotiation on plebiscite bill

malcolm-turnbull-001Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has acknowledged that the government may have to negotiate with other parties to pass the proposed plebiscite bill.

Speaking with 3AW Radio, Mr Turnbull was questioned about the Coalition’s plan to proceed with plebiscite legislation and changes to superannuation.

“We may have to negotiate on all of these matters,” the PM said.

“You cannot expect to get legislation through the Senate on a take it or leave it basis.”

Earlier this week Mr Turnbull seemed less likely to make amendments to the proposed legislation, saying that the plebiscite was the only option on offer to move forward with marriage equality.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten is expected to recommend to his party that they vote against the plebiscite bill in its current state.
