The Australian hip-hop artists inclusion in the Black Entertainment in Television Awards was a surprise announcement giving the musician international coverage.

Three years ago Tkay got our attention with her catchy ‘Brontosaurus’ tune, which she followed up with the awesome ‘Uh-Oh’. Tkay featured on the cover of OUTinPerth back in September 2014.

Since then she’s released a stack of amazing hip hop tunes as well as collaborating with Troye Sivan on his ‘Blue Neighbourhood’ record.

Tkay will face off against South African rapper Emtee, Parisian rapper MHD and English rap crew Section Boyz, West London collective WSTRN and Nigerian rapper FALZ, who round out the nominations.

Tkay’s most recent work is a collaboration with French house DJ Martin Solveig. ‘Do it Right’ has already been a huge success just weeks after its release.

The BET Awards are on Sunday June 26th. Alicia Keys and Maxwell have been announced as performers and the show has promised a tribute to Prince featuring Janelle Monae, Sheila E, D’Angelo and The Roots.
