Photographer says United Patriots Front misuse of her images is vile

Marziya Mohammedali

Photographer Marziya Mohammedali is annoyed that photographs she took at the Save Safe Schools WA rally on Saturday have been re-purposed by the far right group the United Patriots Front.

The anti-Islam group counter-protested the rally on Saturday shouting abuse at the LGBTI community members. Now they’ve posted Mohammedali’s photos to their social media page.

Alongside the photographs are a series of homophobic and transphobic comments, peppered with slurs and extreme threats of violence.

“I’m really annoyed about it.” Mohammedali told OUTinPerth, “Also just worried in the sense that they’re being used to deliberately target and threaten the very individuals that are supposed to be supported.

“The whole point of me taking the photos to show in my own way and document this movement and the fact that they’ve been taken by people like the UPF and used in such a vile way is not on.”

Mohammedali described the comments she’d seen from the UPF page as horrific.

The photographer said she has been taking photos for a few years now, and that social justice issues were of particular interest to her.

“I just take photos for myself. I take photos of a whole range of social justice issues, I’ve been doing this for a while.” Mohammedali said.

  1. It should be added that the photos were reported as inappropriate, as they were attacking people based on sexual orientation. Facebook declined these reports saying the photos did not violate their community guidelines.

Lately, there has been this heated debate in the U.S. about bathroom policies for transgender people. Let’s be clear about something. And I’m not going to be politically correct here. I’m going to tell it like it is: Islam does not permit permanently changing a living creation of Allah, subhanahu wa ta’ala. So whether it’s getting a permanent tattoo or getting a sex change, Islam doesn’t allow it. And for those who say that feeling like the other sex is natural, you’re right. It is natural. Why do I say that? Well, Shaitan is very good at what he does, and it’s natural if some people are unable to resist his whispers for very long. The transgender feelings themselves are NOT natural. It’s Shaitan who puts these thoughts in your head (which soon turn into desires) by whispering to you.
However, there’s a feasible way to ensure he doesn’t convince you to give in to these desires. Stop worshiping your desires or these false role models who encourage this kind of behavior, and come back to worshiping Allah Almighty. Now you can call me intolerant or call me a bigot. But if you don’t want to change for the better, then that’s your choice. Allah gave us free will. But remember that Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change the condition within themselves. And no, that’s not talking about your biological condition, which is what makes you a male or a female. It’s referring to the fact that we have to make the decision OURSELVES to come back to worshiping Allah before He will improve us as a community.
If you think Islam is intolerant, then you’re just flat-out wrong. However, if you keep calling it that, then you’re wasting valuable time that you could be using to return to worshiping Allah again. I can’t make the decision for you to return to worshiping Allah, subhanahu wa ta’ala. You have to be the one to do that. Once we sincerely realize we need to change, turning to Allah for help will make that process much easier. But again, you have to be the one to decide that. Not me. Not anybody else. Just you.
