Culture Club have added an extra show to their itinerary and will not kick off their world tour in Adelaide.
The legendary band were originally scheduled to begin their tour in Perth on Wednesday 8th of June at HBF stadium. Now they’ve added an extra show in Adelaide on Monday June 6th.
Culture Club’s South Australian fans were disappointed when the band didn’t include them on the tour announcement last week, especially as the band has never managed to perform in Adelaide on their other Australian tours.
The band did answer fans call back in their ’80s heyday and made a personal appearance in the Rundle Street Mall in 1984, but this will be the first time the band has delivered their live show in Adelaide.
After they play in Perth Culture Club will head to the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on June 10, Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on June 11 and Brisbane Riverstage on June 14.
After their Australian dates the band will be heading off to The Philippines and the USA.
Supporting the band on the tour will be Kids in the Kitchen. The Australian band fronted by Scott Carne scored a stack of hits off their debut album ‘Shine’ in the mid-’80s.
Tickets for the shows go on sale at 9am Thursday April 14th from Ticketmaster.
New Culture Club album expected soon
Culture Club have recently been back in the studio recording a new album. ‘Tribes’ is expected to be released soon, the first single ‘More Than Silence’ came out in 2014.
The album has been produced by Flood, who has worked with everyone from U2 to Depeche Mode, A-ha, Sigur Ros, Warpaint, The Smashing Pumpkins, New Order and Nine Inch Nails.
The long delayed album will be the bands sixth album. Between 1982 and 1984, when their posters were adorning bedroom walls, the band put out an album each year.
The band’s debut ‘Kissing to be Clever’ featured ‘I’ll Tumble 4 Ya’ and the epic ‘Do You Really Want to Hurt Me’ as well as ‘Time (Clock of the Heart)’.
Culture Club’s sophomore record ‘Colour by Numbers’ sold more than 16 millions copies around the globe. It featured the mega-hit ‘Karma Chameleon’ alongside ‘Victims’, ‘Chirch of the Poison Mind’, ‘Kiss Me Blind’ and ‘It’s a Miracle’.
While 1984’s ‘Waking Up With the House on Fire’ scored a big hit with ‘The War Song’, the other singles off this album were less popular.
The band got back on track with 1986’s ‘From Luxury to Heartache’which spawned ‘God Thank You Woman’ and ‘Move Away’.
The band split up after this album came out and it wouldn’t be until 1999 until they reformed and recorded ‘Don’t Mind If I Do’ – their most recent album featured ‘I Just Wanna Be Loved’ and ‘Your Kisses are Charity’.
While the band has gotten back together quite a few times over the years, lead singer Boy George has released a stack of solo albums, DJ compilations and projects under different pseudonyms.
