Greens sexuality spokesperson Senator Robert Simms says the matter of marriage equality has been debated in the community and the parliament for years and it’s time for a vote.

“The Labor party has private senators’ time available on Thursday and we will be moving to use this time to debate and vote on the Greens’ marriage equality bill.”

Senator Simms says The Greens hope the Labor Party will seize the opportunity to let the Senate have its say on marriage equality.

“Over the next 48 hours we hope Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will reconsider his position and finally grant his party a free vote so marriage equality can become a reality.”
