Vanity, front-woman of Vanity 6 and protege of Prince, has died today aged 57.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Denise Katrina Matthews had succumbed to kidney failure.
Ms Matthews recieved a kidney transplant in 1997, but her health problems continued into the 2000s and beyond. She was diagnosed with sclerosis encapsulating peritonitis in 2015.
Matthews was best known for her chart topping single ‘Nasty Girl’, produced by Prince in the early ’80s.
She later went to on record two Motown albums, ‘Wild Animal’ and ‘Skin on Skin’.
Vanity had also appeared in some feature films, including ‘Action Jackson’ and ‘The Last Dragon’.
Matthews released an autobiography in 2010, entitled ‘Blame It on Vanity’.
