Elton John has spoken out against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump using his music at political rallies.
John joins a number of artists who have disassociated themselves from the conservative candidate. Adele, Neil Young and Aerosmith have all demanded the billionaire businessman not use their music.
Trump had been playing Elton John’s hits ‘Rocket Man’ and ‘Tiny Dancer’, however John’s publicist says Mr Trump’s representatives did not seek permission.
“Any use of his music should not be seen as an endorsement of Donald Trump by Elton,” John’s publicist told media.
Elton John’s rebuke of Mr Trump comes soon after news that the presidential candidate may reverse the USA equal marriage laws if he is elected to the White House.
“…if I’m elected I would be very strong in putting certain judges on the bench that maybe could change things,” Mr Trump said of marriage laws.
“I disagree with the Supreme Court from the standpoint it should be a states’ rights issue. And that’s the way it should have been ruled on, not the way they did it.”
Mr Trump has been a front runner for the Republican nomination throughout the competing campaigns, though it came as a shock to many that Mr Trump placed second to rival Ted Cruz just days ago in the Iowa caucus in the lead-up to this years presidential election.
