Stay Out for Sam Smith

Sam Smith - Sept 2015 (3)

Sam Smith and his honeyed vocals are heading back to Perth this November for an arena performance to remember. At just 23, the young Briton has the music world swooning to his every verse, taking the international charts by storm. In the lead up to his Perth show, we take a look at all the reasons we want to stay with Sam Smith.

He’s a record breaker.

Smith broke not one, but two records this year when he recorded the first ever male vocals for a ‘Bond’ theme. Smith’s song for the upcoming ‘Spectre’ earned him his second place in ‘Guinness World Records’ when it became the first Bond theme to top the UK charts. He was also honoured for lasting the most consecutive weeks in the UK Top 10 for his debut album, ‘In The Lonely Hour’.

Wants to be a strong voice for the LGBTIQ+ community.

Smith garnered a lot of media attention last year, when he said he wasn’t trying to be a spokesperson for the queer community. Only 22, Smith had only just come out as gay and admitted he wanted to focus on his music and writing. Sam’s view has shifted since then, this year announcing he hopes to be an international voice for gay youth – declaring he plans to set up a foundation to support LGBT youth.

The boy knows how to work a ballad.

We all know by now that Smith is not here to churn out dancefloor bangers. His career-defining collaboration with Disclosure on ‘Latch’ certainly proved he is capable, though his solo music is certainly more solemn. The release of his latest ballad ‘Drowning Shadows’ saw the Twitterverse flooded with crying emoji as the single broke hearts across the globe.

His cousins are Lily and Alfie Allen.

Well, third cousins – but hey, we think having Sheezus and Theon Greyjoy in your family tree is something worth bragging about.

He wants to kiss more boys!

Just prior to the release of ‘Drowning Shadows’, Smith announced he is planning to take a sabbatical from making music so that he can live life and experience more. Smith says he’ll have to kiss a few more boys before he can write more songs. Perhaps he’ll find some inspiration here in Perth, who knows, we could all be crying at our computers again this time next year.

Sam Smith will be performing at Perth Arena on Saturday 28th November. Tickets available from Ticketek.com.au
