US toy giant’s Mattel have bucked traditional gender roles in their latest Barbie campaign, featuring a young boy playing with the iconic doll.

The new campaign for Moschino Barbie shows the little tyke hanging with two girls, declaring “Moschino Barbie is so fierce!”

Moschino head Jeremy Scott said he wanted the doll to bring Moschino elements to Barbie, just as he had drawn on Barbie’s style for his fashion line.

“The thing I love most about Barbie is that she is the ultimate muse,” Scott said.

“She’s worn every style and design imaginable and at the same time she’s had every possible profession you can dream of.”

The youngster in the ad even features a miniature faux-hawk, reminiscent of out designer Scott’s signature look.
