NEW YEAR, NEW PRIDE?

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE – we hope your Christmas and New Year passed without incident, and we wish you all a year full of love and understanding.

Well now its back to work for most people – or off on holidays for some. Pride is back to work having survived the ‘silly season’ and we have to make important decisions about what we can safely do this year. As we have mentioned before CHOGM is at the time when we would normally have the Pride Parade, and it is most unlikely that we will be allowed to stage such an event at that time.

So what do we do? We have had calls to move the Parade to the summer months to take advantage of more people being in town on holidays – and passing through on their way to Sydney – but mostly for the warmer weather in the interests of getting more people involved – and the costumes more interesting!!

That is certainly one option and we are continuing to hold talks with the new Perth Fringe Festival about the possibility of becoming involved in that event. Alternatively we could move the Parade and Festival either forward or back for a year to avoid those dates – but is that just going to make things more confusing for everyone?

We also have to consider the security aspect of asking people to participate in an event when there could well be people out to disrupt anything that is on at that time. At this time we understand that the other Pride Festival events – particularly Fairday – would be able to be held as usual in October.

WE NEED YOUR HELP:
It would be great if you could email us your ideas on this subject at pride@pridewa.asn.au or on our Facebook. Obviously we would like to get as much feedback as possible from the community so we can make decisions that will receive your support.

The Pride Annual General Meeting will be on Monday 28th March 2011 and this is the opportunity for our members to receive the report of the 2010 Committee and elect the Committee for 2011. We already know that there will be vacancies on the Committee next year and we are seeking people who would like to offer their services to guide Pride through another year. There are many and varied positions that need to be filled, so if you have a talent you can share with Pride please contact us and tell us how you can help.
