Penny Wong shares why she'll never be Prime Minister

Penny WongPenny Wong has shared her thoughts on why she’ll never be Prime Minister.

In an interview with BuzzFeed‘s Laine Sainty, the South Australian Senator has said that she wouldn’t want to subject her family to the vitriol of the Australian public.

“There’s too much sexism and homophobia and racism in our society for me to want to expose myself to that, and my family.” Wong said.

Senator Wong said when she entered politics there were very few women, nobody who was Asian and nobody who was gay. The senator says running for the lower house simply wasn’t an option.

In the interview Senator Wong also addresses her controversial support of the Labor governments’ policy that supported marriage being limited to opposite gender participants.

Senator Wong said she preferred to work internally changing the policy while publicly supporting the party line.
