As Eurovision edges closer we take a look at this year’s British entry and ask if the UK’s flapper tune will bring home the trophy in 2015?
Electro Velvet are a duo comprising Alex Larke and Bianca Nicholas.
Their 20’s inspired tune ‘Still in Love with You’ sounds like an outtake from ‘The Great Gatsby’ soundtrack and manages to rhyme ‘sneezes’ with ‘diseases’ Â in the lyrics.
It even has a little jazz scat in it towards the end.
It’s been a long time since Britain did well in the competition. Last year Molly Smitten-Donwes was placed 17th in the competiton with ‘Children of the Universe’.
Britain last won the competion in 1997 when Kartina and the Waves performed “Love Shine a Light’. A low point came in 2003 when Jemini scored no points at all.
The UK have won the competition five times in it’s sixty year history. Their first win came in 1967 when Sandie Shaw sang ‘Puppet on a String’. In 1969 Lulu was one of four performers in a four way tie with ‘Boom Bang-a-Bang’, In 1976 Brotherhood of Man were successful with ‘Save Your Kissed for Me’ and in 1981 Bucks Fizz caused a sensation with their skirt reveals and song ‘Making My Mind Up’.
