A Bit of An Overshare

oversahreThe true test of a performer is the title they give their show. Does the show title titillate you? Does it terrify you? Is it kinda meh…& you look for something else to entertain? In the curious case of Claire Healy’s extravagant one-woman show, ‘A Bit Of An Overshare’, said title terrified me.

I mean, really…an overshare? What on earth I had I gotten myself into? Turns out, a whole heap of outrageous fun.

Healy is a living dynamo. Packed up tight in modesty shorts and a fabulous fringed monochromatic flapper dress, her expressive face is captivating from the get go. What comes next is a bawdy anthem filled show – where she plays piano…magnificently, may I add – that nerds out on the musical theatricality of it all.

Yes, she’s a mouthful. And some might say an earful, but nicely so. But what sublime sounds she will seduce you with, they’ll add. Her opening number is an ode to The Metro (a UK newspaper) so a little Anglophilia helps to get the jokes. Get them, and you’re in.

Healy’s wonderland of neurotic pop songs are a delight. This girl can sing. And that face! She is a stunning songstress…and it’s all self-composed!

Expect homicidal goldfish, creepy pick-up lines and police-approved lovely lady alarms kicking it alongside intimate moments of showing mum your music and Facebook stalking you. Yup, it’s that deliciously intense! But what makes it worth the ride is the witty rhetoric, appropriate bitterness and ironic emphasis all driven home hard.

You must see this show. Please! It will brighten your day in the most unexpected way. Trust me: I know I may be mad, but so is she…and it’s wonderful.

But seriously, with only three shows left, I would suggest that if you have missed everything else at Fringeworld, you must catch Claire Healy’s ‘A Bit Of An Overshare’. Yes, the title is terrifying, but Healy is terrifyingly good.  Make sure you get up close and personal for this up-close and personal show. Magic.

‘A Bit of An Overshare’ is playing at Noodle Palace until Saturday February 21st. Snap up tickets at www.fringeworld.com.au
