Azealia Banks: 2-1-Too Many Tweets

Notorious social media masochist Azealia Banks is in the spotlight once again, and once again, it’s not about making music.

Banks has carved a name for herself online after releasing one successful single (212) in 2011, followed by a number of hateful comments published on social media over the years that followed. The most notable example would be her attack on Perez Hilton, naming him a “messy faggot”, and calling LGBTIQ rights organization GLAAD, “fucking complete bullshit” after they noted that her comments were inappropriate.

In her most recent outburst, Banks initiated an argument on Twitter with VICE writer Mitchell Sunderland, over an innocuous series of jokes in response to a characteristically ignorant tweet from Banks regarding twinks. It should be noted that Sunderland had not tagged Banks’ handle in his posts, which would suggest the rapper had been actively searching for instances of her name.

The initial tweet from Sunderland simply read, “Does Azealia Banks even know what a twink is?” to which Banks replied “do you know that I am a a [sic] woman and I invented everything feminine? Including giving birth to gay men?” Banks continued to confuse the internet, sharing “You gay bloggers try waving that homophobia flag at me like women are not the original source…”

The comments continued in this vein, until Banks reached a crescendo with this humble comment; “…and even if I am a homophobe… so wat? I still make more $ than you.. still have an extra hole.. and still own everything”.

Despite her penchant for broadcasting ignorance, Banks showed incredible foresight in naming her latest (and only) album, Broke with Expensive Taste
