Josh Thomas’ ABC2 comedy series ‘Please Like Me’ has had its overseas success formally recognised with a nomination for an International Emmy.

The show has been nominated in the comedy category alongside three other nominees from Belgium, Brazil and South Africa.

The comedy series has been critically acclaimed despite rating lower than ‘Dr Phil’ for its season 2 premier. However, Thomas’ semi-autobiographical serial of whimsy has received recognition overseas, being lauded by Time Magazine and picked up by American cable channel Pivot, which ordered a second season.

The show has also faired well on iView, becoming the third most watched program on the ABC’s online viewing platform, and illegal download rates have been quite high.

Thomas told the Sydney Morning Herald he was thrilled by the news.

“”It’s good, isn’t it? I mean that’s the best award were eligible for, so it’s great,” he said.
