The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programmes found that the rates of homicide in 2012 and 2013 were among the highest ever recorded.

Nearly 90% of homicide victims in 2013 were people of colour. The majority of homicide victims were African American at 78%, with 11% being Latino and 11% being white.

Transgender women face disproportionately high levels of violence, with three quarters of homicide victims being transgender women and over two thirds of homicide victims being non-white trans women.

The study also reported a 21% increase in reports of physical hate violence in 2013. More information on the study is available here.
