GLBTIQ EASTER

With the arrival of Easter in early April, many find themselves pondering the meaning of the holiday for the GLBTIQ community. OUTinPerth asked some members of Perth’s Christian community what they thought. Rev. Bev Fabb, the organizer of Uniting Friends said, ‘Easter means there is always hope. There are times when life can treat GLBT people badly. I think Easter is about offering a possibility of hope.’

Wendy Longworth of the Uniting Network said, ‘Easter for me is a time where I am reminded that God loves all of us… The message of Easter is for everyone. I am always saddened to hear people’s bad experiences of the church because of their sexuality. Not all churches are the same and there are many Christians out there who believe God’s love is for everyone-that we are all a rainbow people reflecting the diversity and richness of God’s creation.’

Those wishing to celebrate Easter with the greater Christian community are invited to attend Uniting Friends’ Easter meeting on Friday, April 13th at 7pm. For further information, contact Rev. Bev Fabb on 9481 1077.

St. Andrews Anglican also welcomes the GLBTI community to their Easter services. There are services on Good Friday at 9:30am, Saturday evening at 7:30pm and Sunday at 9:30am. There will be dessert and champagne after the Saturday night service.

Those who want general information on GLBTI-friendly Christian church services can contact Wendy Longworth on 9212 1453.
