Rupert Murdoch has labeled gay rights groups “bullies” and called on all Irish people to boycott Guinness beer following the brewer’s positive response to gay rights groups.
The dispute started when the legendary Stonewall Inn in New York City threatened to stop selling Guinness Beer because the New Y0rk St Patrick’s Day parade did not allow gay groups to take part in the event. Guinness is a major sponsor of the event.
Guinness took notice of the attention and withdrew their funding from the event. In a statement the company said they had a strong history of supporting diversity and being an advocate for equality for all.
The media tycoon took to his twitter account to express his disappointment that Guinness had backed out of the event
“Where will this end? Guinness pulls out of religious parade bullied by gay orgs who try to take it over. Hope all Irish boycott the stuff.”
Murdoch has previously voiced his opposition to marriage equality saying;
“I believe it is wrong. I’m considered homophobic and crazy about these things and old fashioned. But I think that the family – father, mother, children – is fundamental to our civilisation.”
