Victim of Hate Crime – Maybe Not

Richard Scott KennedyA British newspaper has revealed a teenager who received wide spread attention on social media last week was not beaten up, but actually tripped and fell on his own face.

On February 26th a British teenager, Richard Scott Kennedy posted on Facebook that he had attacked and beaten because of his sexuality.

The bisexual theatre student from Blackpool shared how he was attacked by a mob who stamped on his head, splitting his lip and causing his teeth to cut his gums.

News of the attack was reported in media around the world and the teenagers photo was shared widely on social media.

Now a British newspaper, ‘The Lancashire Evening Post’, has reported that they detective assigned to investigate the assault has discovered that Kennedy was not assaulted.Detective Inspector Paddy O’Neill said;

“We managed to recover some CCTV footage which shows the injured party falling face-first onto the pavement.

“We have showed him the CCTV and he now accepts his injuries were caused during the fall.

Kennedy had told the police that he received some verbal abuse when he was leaving a bar, and the next thing he remembered was waking up covered in blood. His posts to Facebook differed in that he claimed a mob had attacked him.
