Towards freedom is detailed booklet that looks at domestic abuse in diverse sexuality and gender relationships (DSG).

Chairperson, Mark Ravenscroft said that the booklet is not only directed at those who are experiencing domestic abuse but could also be used by people who want to ensure that their current or future relationships remain healthy.

Currently the resource is available from:
WA AIDS Council
FPWA
GLCS
PICYS
Starrick
Pat Giles
The resource can also be downloaded from the SSDAG web-site
www.ssdag.org.au

Also SSDAG released a new resource for services providers who may be supporting (or would like to actively support) the DSG community with domestic abuse.

The resource was commissioned by SSDAG and developed with in conjunction with various organisations.

The resource called Handle with care (Thoughts for supporting people of diverse sexuality and gender who experience abuse in their relationships) aims to help workers and service providers to better understand the complexities of DSG domestic abuse, therefore allowing them to better support the DSG community. This resource is downloadable from the SSDAG website

Recently Mark Ravenscroft met with senior officers from the family and domestic violence unit (FDVU).

The aim was to ensure the DSG community is properly represented and acknowledged by the government department.

Mr Ravenscroft raised concerns that there is no acknowledgment of DSG domestic abuse on government web-sites. Discussion also centred on where the DSG community fits in within the departments strategic plans.

‘Although the meeting was somewhat useful there is a huge way to go and from my point of view the department is not fully appreciative of the difficulties and the complexities that SSDAG has in engaging with the DSG community on the subject domestic abuse,’ Mr Ravenscroft said.
