The film ‘The Dallas Buyers Club’ scored two acting awards. Mathew McConaughey was honoured for his lead role, while co-star Jared Leto picked up the best supporting actor in the drama category.

The film depicts the true story of Ron Woodroof, who is 1985 found himself HIV positive. He began smuggling drugs into Texas to treat HIV patients. In the film Leto plays a Rayon, a HIV positive transgender woman.

The made for TV movie, ‘Behind the Candelabra’ was named the Best TV Miniseries or Movie, while lead actor Michael Douglas picked up the Best Actor statue in that category as well.

The feature film ’12 Years a Slave’ won the Best Motion Picture – Drama, the film opens at the Somerville Auditorium for the Perth International Arts Festival this evening.

Also amongst the winners was Cate Blanchett, Leonardo DiCaprio, Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence.
