Human Nature: Home for Christmas

Human Nature-003Human Nature is heading home for Christmas. The band’s found enormous success in Las Vegas with their Motown show but have taken time out to record their first Christmas album. Their Christmas tour will see them bring their collection of festive tunes and carols to the Perth Zoo later this month.

OUTinPerth spoke to band member Toby Allen from their band’s base in Las Vegas.

“We’ve played Kings Park and a lot of the theatres in Perth but we’ve never done the Zoo. We’re looking forward to it,” said Allen.

“We’ve had a lot of people from Perth come see our show in Vegas lately,” Allen said, ‘It must be because the economy is booming over there and people can afford to travel a lot. There have been some rowdy bunches coming in.”

It seems surprising that Human Nature have never tackled a Christmas album before.

“Almost everyone I speak to asks, ‘Haven’t you released a Christmas album before?’ but we haven’t, and we’ve only done a few Christmas tracks before.” Allen said.

With a plethora of Christmas tunes and carols available narrowing down the selection for the album was a process that Allen said he found enjoyable.

“We’ve got some great versions of songs on the album,” said Allen, “We found some interesting versions of songs that we hadn’t heard before but we thought we could put own our spin on. We found a version of ‘White Christmas’ that was done by The Drifters, it’s a really cool doo-wop and soul version. We thought that would really suit us, it’s different to the normal Bing Crosby version – which is a real crooner tune and not really us.”

Allen says the band is looking forward to heading home to Australia. He says personally he likes to spend Christmas Day being as relaxed as possible.

“The end of the year, it always gets crazy…December is frenetic and it’s great to get home and do the Christmas shows and see all the fans, but Christmas Day I look forward to doing nothing and spending it with family and friends.”

Human Nature is playing playing at Perth Zoo on December 20th, tickets are available from Ticketek.
