The High Court has announced it will reserve it’s judgement on same sex marriage in the ACT until Thursday December 12th.
The delay in judgement will allow same sex couples to begin marrying from Saturday after the legislation comes into effect.
Any marriages may be short lived though if the court ends up ruling that the territory’s legislation is not valid. The ACT is arguing that is has the authority to create legislation for same sex marriage as the federal laws to do cover this area.
The federal government is arguing that marriage is an area that only the federal government is responsible for, and it’s laws prevent same sex couple from marrying.
