SceneOUT #103

Ugh! Drag Wars?! In galaxy far, far away there was an intergalactic space Princess and a… wait, I can see this going very, very badly. It seems the latest drag feud on the scene is so great that it’s spilt over into the mainstream. The face-off that is Val vs. Fem The Future reached fever pitch at New Years when it’s alleged one stole a spot show from the other, resulting in an ‘expulsion’ from Connections. All that over a fake heart? Yes, darling. Step on toes and you’ll have your career ripped from your chest, at least from one half of town anyway. And yes, we got official word from the crew at Connections about the situation. We also got an official yawn. But we don’t care anyway – we won a Glammy too.

That said, has Val’s alter ego left the world of drag to take up male modelling in Paris? Well, we thought so, but it appeared Doppelganger Week incorporated Men’s Paris Fashion Week too… or at least a certain moody LA designer’s collection anyway.

And speaking of runways, darling, it seems Feminem the Future is getting a little drag couture going on. Not from the hallowed halls of Milan or Paris, mind you. Try the back streets of Inglewood as Madame Anne Marie Therese is busy putting the loving hours needed into making Fem look like she stepped off the red carpet. First outfit is very on-trend in black feathers (think Ann D.’s Vlad The Impaler rock moment at the recent fashion week) while the second is inspired by Lady Gaga’s duet with Sir Elton John. Yes… that duet. Reportedly Armani dressed Gaga for The Grammys, although the green bodysuit with shoulders seemed very McQueen. Either way, it’s a look sure to suit Fem… although we hope it doesn’t bunch around the snatch like Gaga’s did!

The kids have gone back to school… and now so can you. Detention is back as the first Shameless party of the year. By the looks of the poster the kids are getting busted for being stoned vampires indulging in more than some Sleeping Beauty action. If you wanna rock it out, why not dress up in theme and possibly take home a prize for doing so. It’s a night of shameless shenanigans, naturally, so dare to dress up and have some fun. All happens Saturday February 13.

Gavin, the manager at Connections, is as ancient as the wind. In fact, if you stop by the most ancient place in the world at midday and hold your ear to the heavens, you’ll hear the breeze whisper out his name as it searches for something older than itself. Or at least that’s what you get when you tell mOther Saturday, February 20, is a special club night called It’s The Manager’s Birthday…so buy him a drink. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavin. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavin. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaapy Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirthday.

Speaking of Saturday’s February 13, 20 and 27, it seems The Fame Game will be kicking off at The Court Hotel. This spectacular show stars the likes of Feminem, Swish Everready and the oldest bit on two legs, little miss ‘gimme-some-shoes… GIMME-SOME-SHOES’ Jemina Beam. We love a little Jemina Beam. It’s nice to have her back.

Saturday February 27 sees Swish Everready hit Connections for some truly outrageous spot numbers. It’s sure to be more than a little mad with Swish on the stage.

Take a trip Around The World at The Court Hotel on Sunday February 28 when they bring a slice from four corners of the globe together for one night only. The front bar will be given over to Germany as Oktoberfest comes early. Expect lots of German fun, food and beer. The Red Bar becomes England as everyone pops back to the mother country for a spot of tea. Sheep will abound in the Gold Bar, where fruity kiwi cocktails will be on offer. And out the back, grab a ghat because Cuba comes alive with all the sounds of a Cuban Fiesta. Expect Salsa dancers and mojitos. It’s sure to be a big night, so make sure you have your passport on hand.

DJ Jamie Head flies in direct from London for CRASH!, a night sure to smash your long weekend into lots of manageable little pieces. His sound verges on the blisteringly brilliant and he’ll be making the place thump, bump and jump all night long. It’s a long weekend the next day, so be there Sunday February 28 for a night you won’t forget. Well… maybe you will forget it, depending on how you party.

Keep an eye out for Short Cuts Vol #1 and #2 at the beginning of March. It’s a night given over to drag spot numbers, live vocalists and some incredibly twisted performances. This is old skool Connections, the kind where performance art gets precedence. Be there to indulge in a slice of alternative coolness, the kind that will have you squealing and gossiping all week long.

In the meantime I’m off to a galaxy far far away.

Not really, I’m off to Pizza Hut.

Later,

The mOther
