Actor Ben Whishaw Comes Out

Ben WhishawBritish actor Ben Whishaw has announced that he is gay and in a civil partnership with Australian composer Mark Bradshaw.

Whishaw is best known for his role in the BBC TV series ‘The Hour’ in which he played investigative journalist Freddie Lyon. Wishaw also played Q in the most recent James Bond film ‘Skyfall’ and appeared in the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Cloud Atlas’.

Whishaw met his partner while making the Australian film ‘Bright Star’ in 2009 and the pair entered into a civil partnership in Sydney in August 2012. Bradshaw was the composer on ‘Bright Star’ and most recently provided the score to Jane Campion’s mini-series ‘Top of the Lake’.

Whishaw has previously been reluctant to discuss his private life but yesterday his spokesman confirmed his partnership telling Britian’s Daily Mail;

“Ben has never hidden his sexuality, but like many actors he prefers not to discuss his family or life outside of his work.

“Due to speculation, I can confirm that Ben and Mark entered into a civil partnership in August 2012. They were proud to do so and are very happy.”
